Roasting with intention in Portland

Driftline started with a simple belief: the best coffee comes from knowing exactly where your beans come from and respecting the craft of small-batch roasting. We source directly from farms that share our commitment to quality and sustainability, then roast in small batches to highlight each origin's unique character.

Our Portland cafe is built around the pour-over bar—a space where you can watch the ritual unfold and taste the difference that freshness and intention make. Whether you're visiting us in the neighborhood or receiving beans at your door nationwide, every bag carries a roast date and a story.

Small-Batch Roasting

Precise control over every roast means beans that taste their best, delivered fresh to you.

Single-Origin Traceability

We know our farmers and their land. Every origin is chosen with care and transparency.

Community First

From our pour-over bar to nationwide subscriptions, we're building a coffee community rooted in craft.

Small-Batch Roasting, Maximum Control

Every bean that leaves Driftline has been roasted in small batches—typically 5 to 10 pounds at a time. This isn't just tradition; it's precision. Small batches let us dial in the roast profile with absolute control, responding to the exact characteristics of each origin.

A mass-production roaster runs 50-pound batches on autopilot. By the time the first beans hit peak flavor, the last ones are already overdeveloped. We roast to the individual lot, not the schedule. That's why a Driftline Ethiopian tastes like Ethiopia—bright, floral, alive—instead of tasting like "coffee."

Roast-Date Transparency

Every bag ships with a visible roast date. Peak freshness is 2 to 4 weeks post-roast. You'll know exactly when your beans were roasted and how fresh they are.

Origin-Specific Profiles

Each origin gets its own roast curve. A natural-process Ethiopian needs different time and temperature than a washed Colombian. We adjust for each bean, not the other way around.

Waste Reduction & Sustainability

Small batches mean tighter margins on chaff and seconds. We compost our chaff and donate off-spec beans to local food programs. Precision roasting wastes less.

Small-batch roasting costs more to execute. That's where your premium goes—not into marketing, but into the skill and attention that makes every cup taste exceptional.

Driftline Coffee Roasters sustainable coffee farms and direct sourcing partnerships

Direct Farm Relationships

We source directly from farmers we trust, eliminating middlemen and ensuring fair pricing that reflects the true value of their work. These partnerships are built on transparency, respect, and a shared passion for exceptional coffee.

Complete Traceability

Every bag of Driftline coffee is single-origin, meaning it comes from one specific farm or region. We document the origin, farmer, altitude, and harvest details—so you know exactly where your coffee came from.

Sustainable Practices

We partner with farmers who prioritize soil health, water conservation, and biodiversity. Many of our origins use shade-grown methods that protect ecosystems while producing exceptional coffee.

Local Impact

Beyond the farm, we're committed to reducing waste in our Portland roastery. We compost spent grounds, minimize packaging, and support local environmental initiatives that align with our values.

Our Sourcing Promise

When you buy Driftline coffee, you're supporting farmers who are building sustainable livelihoods. You're also supporting a roastery that believes transparency and ethics aren't marketing—they're how we do business.
